Small Business Saturday was way too successful. American Express has done away with the $25 credits and the registration page. However, I just logged into my account and noticed there is a “Shop Small November” offer ($10 back on a $10 Small Business Saturday purchase) in the “Amex Offers and Benefits” section. It’s only good at a small business (use their map) and only on Saturday, November 28th. Get out there and save!!
If you don’t live under a rock, you’ve probably heard there was yet another corporate data security breach. This time it was at Anthem Health Insurance.
If you are an Anthem member, you can get two years of free credit monitoring. Anthem will be posting details here later today. Add that to my free year of credit monitoring at Home Depot and then another from Target and I’m going on four years of unpaid credit monitoring. Thanks a lot criminals!
On that note…go check your credit.
Chipotle wants you to go meatless today and they’re offering you free food for doing it. Today only, order their organic tofu Sofritas at any Chipotle in the US or Canada, then bring your receipt back on your next visit—from January 27th through February 28th, 2015—for a FREE burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos of your choice.
I actually love the Sofritas. It has a meat-like texture and great taste. But it has no creepy meat parts like surprise bones and chewy tendons (I’ve had both in my chicken at Chipotle, so now I go veg there). Enjoy!
I logged into my credit union savings account this morning and noticed a link to free TurboTax. If you have basic tax needs, like me, you can use the online simple federal edition and state free! You will have to pay to e-file. Or be cheap like me and print those pups out and mail them in.
Do you work in Contra Costa county and carpool, take public transit, or walk or bike to work? If you get stuck in an emergency situation, 511 Contra Costa has you covered with a guaranteed ride home. You must pre-register to participate.
I am! (I scheduled this post weeks ago.) I don’t believe in Black Friday. No great deal or any amount of savings could get me into a store at some ridiculous early hour today or ever. Waking up too early is reserved for catching a flight.
Registration for American Express’ Small Business Saturday started this morning! Register your American Express card now and on Saturday, November 29, use that card for an in-store transaction at a local small business for a purchase of $10 or more and you’ll receive a $10 statement credit for up to three small businesses. You can earn up to $30 in statement credits! And if you have multiple American Express cards, each one qualifies individually. I happen to have three, so I’ll be earning/saving $90 that day.
In past years, the Small Business Saturday offer was a one-time $25 statement credit at one small business. Many small businesses in my area offered bonus gift cards with the purchase of regular gift cards that day. My favorite nail salon offered a bonus $25 gift card, when you bought a $25 gift card. So I’d end up paying $0, for $50 in gift cards. It was a killer deal. I’m hoping they’re offering something similar this year.
I arrived at work one day last week and checked my account balances, as I do every day. I logged into the Discover site and an offer I’ve never seen before popped up. So, I read it over and clicked on the “Sign Me Up” button.
Thank you for signing up for our exclusive promotional Cashback Bonus® offer. We are happy that you have decided to shift your spending to Discover® card and want to confirm the details of your offer. You will earn $300 Cashback Bonus after you make a total of at least $2,000 in purchases each calendar month from 12/1/14 to 4/30/15 with your Discover card.
If I spend $2,000 on my Discover card each month from December to April, I’ll earn an additional $300 cash back. That’s on top of the 5-20% cash back I get for using Discover‘s “Shop Discover” online mall portal. And also on top of the 5% bonus cash back calendar, which is offered on Online Shopping & Department stores, through December 31 and then Gas in January to March and then Dining & Entertainment in April. I also get 1% cash back at any place not listed above.
Spending $2,000 on my card each month will be fairly easy. I’ve already updated all of my auto-pay accounts to bill to my Discover card. And then there’s Christmas…
From what I’ve read about this discount, it’s by invite only and cardholders randomly receive this or a similar offer. I totally recommend getting a Discover card.
I think gift cards are the best gift. They’re easy for the gifter to buy. And the giftee can get what they want and not have the hassle of returning something that they don’t really want or need. Restaurant gift cards are great, because everyone eats.
Christmas is coming and the bonus gift card offers are staring early this year. Bonus gift cards mean you get a gift for yourself when you buy a gift for someone else. Or, if you’re me, you just buy gift cards for your favorite restaurants and use the gift card AND the bonus cards yourself. Make sure to read the fine print because the bonus cards can’t usually be used until January, but at least you’ll save money next year.
PF Changs is again offering a $20 bonus card for each $100 gift card purchased.
Roys is offering the same deal.
California Pizza Kitchen is offering…take a guess.
Red Lobster is blazing their own path here. You’ll get a $5 bonus coupon for every $25 spent on gift cards.
We’re only 6 days into November. More of these offers will be popping up soon. Check your favorite restaurant’s website or give them a call to find out if they’ve got a bonus for you.
This Halloween, come into any Chipotle dressed in costume from 5pm to close, and you’ll score a burrito, bowl, salad, or an order of tacos for just $3. All proceeds up to $1,000,000 will benefit the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.
