AmEx Shop Small Saturday

Small Business Saturday was way too successful.  American Express has done away with the $25 credits and the registration page. However, I just logged into my account and noticed there is a “Shop Small November” offer ($10 back on a $10 Small Business Saturday purchase) in the “Amex Offers and Benefits” section. It’s only good at a small business (use their map) and only on Saturday, November 28th. Get out there and save!!

Shop Small. Save Big.

Registration for American Express’ Small Business Saturday started this morning!  Register your American Express card now and on Saturday, November 29, use that card for an in-store transaction at a local small business for a purchase of $10 or more and you’ll receive a $10 statement credit for up to three small businesses. You can earn up to $30 in statement credits! And if you have multiple American Express cards, each one qualifies individually. I happen to have three, so I’ll be earning/saving $90 that day.

In past years, the Small Business Saturday offer was a one-time $25 statement credit at one small business.  Many small businesses in my area offered bonus gift cards with the purchase of regular gift cards that day. My favorite nail salon offered a bonus $25 gift card, when you bought a $25 gift card. So I’d end up paying $0, for $50 in gift cards. It was a killer deal. I’m hoping they’re offering something similar this year.

Extra cash back has been Discovered

I arrived at work one day last week and checked my account balances, as I do every day. I logged into the Discover site and an offer I’ve never seen before popped up. So, I read it over and clicked on the “Sign Me Up” button.

Thank you for signing up for our exclusive promotional Cashback Bonus® offer. We are happy that you have decided to shift your spending to Discover® card and want to confirm the details of your offer.   You will earn $300 Cashback Bonus after you make a total of at least $2,000 in purchases each calendar month from 12/1/14 to 4/30/15 with your Discover card.

If I spend $2,000 on my Discover card each month from December to April, I’ll earn an additional $300 cash back. That’s on top of the 5-20% cash back I get for using Discover‘s “Shop Discover” online mall portal. And also on top of the 5% bonus cash back calendar, which is offered on Online Shopping & Department stores, through December 31 and then Gas in January to March and then Dining & Entertainment in April. I also get 1% cash back at any place not listed above.

Spending $2,000 on my card each month will be fairly easy. I’ve already updated all of my auto-pay accounts to bill to my Discover card. And then there’s Christmas…

From what I’ve read about this discount, it’s by invite only and cardholders randomly receive this or a similar offer. I totally recommend getting a Discover card.

Thanks for Sharing

macysMacys’ Thanks for Sharing program is back!

If you have a Macy’s credit card pay $25 now to earn 10% of your purchases back, from the day you enroll until December 31, 2014.  Yes, you’ll earn 10% back on your Christmas shopping. Plus, you’re still free to use all the coupons you want during the accumulation period.  I receive “20% Off” and “$20 Off” coupons weekly.

Earnings are distributed via a gift card that you’ll receive sometime in February or March 2015. I earned $114.43 last year (Really $89.43 when you factor in the $25 I paid, but it’s still a savings!)

If you don’t have a Macy’s credit card you can apply for one. Beware though. The current APR is 24.5% on a Macy’s revolving credit card. If you are not able to pay the balance in full each month, it is NOT worth the savings.

Are you having a tax deduction?

Ooops! I mean baby. Are you having a baby?

If you have a Babies R Us or a Buy Buy Baby near you, sign up for both stores’ e-mail list, text list, etc. BuyBuyBaby loooooves to send out “20% off” and “$5 off $15” coupons. And Babies R Us will accept them. Babies R Us will also send some coupons out, but not at BuyBuy’s frequency. And BuyBuy will also accept their sister store’s coupons (Bed Bath & Beyond). Depending on the cashier, Babies R Us may or may not accept Bed Bath & Beyond coupons.

If you’re having a baby, register at Babies R Us. With Endless Earnings you earn 5-10% on all items purchased off of your registry, even your own. That includes furniture, diapers, formula, and most everything you need. They’ll send you a gift card of your earnings. Also, they’ll send you a “completion coupon” (currently 15% off an entire transaction) a few weeks before your due date to purchase anything you didn’t receive. You can also add to your registry before checking out when you’re using the completion coupon in case you think of some more necessities.

Babies R Us also offers the Rewards R Us program. This is yet another way to get some earnings. You earn Rewards dollars (coupons) for your own purchases when you use the card at checkout at Babies R Us and Toys R Us. Rewards start at $250 in spending (2 points per dollar), which you’ll hit (and keep hitting) pretty quickly. It’s just like stacking coupons.

If you want to go for the trifecta, open a Toys/Babies R Us Mastercard. You’ll earn 4 points per dollar (at Babies and Toys R Us) with the Rewards R Us program and 1 point per dollar elsewhere. They’ll also send you card-holder only coupons and a one-time account opening “% off “coupon for your entire first purchase. (I didn’t sign up for the card, so I’m not sure if it’s 10, 15, or 20% off)

Put that baby to work!

Syncing has its privileges

Because I’m an avid Costco shopper, I’m also an American Express cardholder. It’s the only credit card Costco takes. I rarely use the card anywhere else because their cashback earning level is a joke.

In an attempt to lure my card out of Costco, AmEx has introduced the AmExSync program.  AmExSync lets me add special statement credit deals to my card via Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and TripAdvisor. The deals change frequently and I have to log in and choose the ones I want to use. Right now I’ll get a $5 statement credit if I spend $15 at Panera and a $25 statement credit if I spend $100 at J. Crew. The deals they offer are usually 25% back or more. Not too shabby.

Free 2-day shipping for life

If you have an eligible American Express card, ShopRunner is offering free 2-day shipping for life! They have a fairly decent list of companies that they work with, and I’m thinking this will be a huge benefit around Christmastime. Most companies offer free shipping when you spend a certain amount, but not many deliver in two days. It’s free, so why not sign up?

ShopRunner’s members save time and money with benefits including free 2-day shipping with no minimum order, free and easy return shipping, exclusive member offers, and easy 2-click check out. Participating stores include Toys”R”Us, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, GNC, American Eagle Outfitters, Drugstore.com, Blue Nile and hundreds of others.
